Industry Veteran to lead channel-neutral marketing communications agency
Republic helps marketers and companies navigate the new consumer environment through innovative channel-neutral marketing communications. In her new role, Murphy will oversee client strategy and team development as well as build Republic's portfolio which includes work for Muskoka Brewery, Everest Funeral Planning and Concierge Service, Everest-Ferbey National Pro Am, Giorgio Armani, Town of Bracebridge, Canada Company, Canadian Centre for Gender & Sexual Diversity, Lawrence Plaza, Staffy and Weston Brain Institute.
Murphy brings a wealth of leadership experience to the growing organization, most recently as Head of Communications for Kraft Heinz Canada where she oversaw internal and external communications including marketing communications, employee and industry relations, leader communications, issues and crisis management as well as government relations. She also spent five years at Labatt Breweries in senior Brand Communications and Public Affairs roles; was Senior Director of Public Relations at Rogers Communications; and led Corporate Affairs for Kraft Canada.
This is the third time Hammond and Murphy have teamed up in the last 15 years, starting at think.ink Communique PR. As head of the Marketing Communications practice at Veritas where Hammond was President and CEO, Murphy played an integral role in the growth of the organization working with global brands like Church & Dwight, Coca Cola, Crayola, Guinness, Hershey, McCain and Staples.
“There are few people in the business with the breadth of knowledge across disciplines that Kathy Murphy has. I have repeatedly witnessed her sheer talent and remarkable ability to achieve great things with clients and teams alike, so I am thrilled to have her lead our trans-disciplinary agency and advance our brand of unbiased strategy and storytelling,” said Hammond.
“I am excited about Republic’s leadership in purpose-based storytelling,” Murphy stated. Adding, “today, consumers and employees want more from what they buy and where they work. They want relationships that go beyond functionality. They want connections rooted in authenticity. Republic is unique in its approach to helping clients engage around those meaningful stories across all channels. I look forward to leading a talented team focused on this new approach to marketing and communications.”
Murphy joins a leadership team that includes Brand Strategist and Vice President Chris Hopper, who joined Republic from JWT where he spent several years leading brand development on Tim Hortons including business and brand development in the US; and Chairman Terry Johnson, founder and former CEO of Allard Johnson (now KBS+), former Chair of Veritas and former partner in design firm OnBrand. The announcement happens on the heels of the launch of Republic’s new visual identity and its relocation to a larger office.
